Default What gear ratio is everyone running?

I am in need for posi-traction really bad, so I might as well upgrade the gears

I was wondering what everyone is running/suggests, I'm using the 4l60e for now - but I plan on upgrading to the 4l80e in probably a year. For tires I'm using 275/45R20

Right now (stock) it has 3.42 RATIO

or should I just get a powertrax locker and use the stock gears for now?

THANKS!

while I'm not F/I I've read several threads that you don't want a numerically high gear because you won't have much spooling time. I'd say 3.73's would be a good medium

It seems the mid 3.xx range is the sweet spot with fi, I would not go lower than 3.73, i'd actually prolly stay with the 3.42's.

I've seen the same on here as what they're sayin from what I've read.
The newer trucks come factory as 3.23, some even stay w/. that. Others have or get 3.42, or 3.73 at most to go along w/. their turbo setups. Just cause someone isn't sporting a turbo, they've likely read the same thread(s) on turbo gearing. And yes, I can appreciate someone who actually has a turbo on to give u a reply, validates it, so hopefully they'll chime in.

Lot of the turbo guys I've talked to run higher gearing, 3.42 being the most popular. Even one crazy bastard running 3.08s The 3.73s in mine feel good all around, but its absolutely useless on the low end. I've never tried it, but I have no doubt I could peg the speedo from a dig until the truck caught up with the tires... The high end with higher gearing puts you closer to peak torque, so it feels a lot stronger.

do you guys think just using my stock gears and running the locker I posted a link to would work out good?

I've read about powertrax lately and a lot of people dislike it and suggest TrueTrac, which I found here

So I don't think I necessarily need to change my gear ratio at 3.42 seems to be fine for forced induction. Unless I need to upgrade to a stronger ring and pinion?

When installing a locker only, do I need to re-shim the gears/check gear contact pattern and all that good stuff?

Youll need to set the backlash, pinion depth will be unchanged.

I would check the backlash, but as long as you make sure you get the shims back where they were with the new differential it should be unchanged as well.
