Yeah think your right or at least thats what Im thinking. I think there is a post in the GMT900 section about the transfer cases used.

BW4485 RPO Code NR3 used with 6L80E
Not a good set up to use. It's an open design and uses the ABS brake bias to control traction. Scroll down to post 13 and 14 in this link.
