I thought I remember the Detroit Tru-Trac being in the mid-high $3__'s shipped from Rons... but it was about two years ago now that I got mine. I too run the T/A cover, but you've got to silicone the heck out of those bearing preload studs otherwise they'll leak.

So what happens if 1 tire is in the air? Bad snow last winter & needed full time locker traction.

comin' from somebody who currently lives in the snow half the year, the trutrac does great in the white stuff, couldn't ask for more. The full detroit locker is too much for the slippery stuff, you'll be doing donuts whether you want to or not! And if you're stuck in the snow and have a tire in the air, I'm guessing you may have went into a ditch or something, you're probably screwed whether you have that locker or not, need a winch or a yank in the winter time.
But, what was mentioned earlier about one wheel in the air with the trutrac, I think they were implying if that tire left on the ground has solid traction, then it may possibly send power to the wheel in the air, but I've yet to experience this with my set-up.

If one wheel is in the air and you need to get some power to the one on the ground, I think you can apply the breaks just enough and it will put some power to both wheels. I don't have a tru track but that is typical of limited slips as far as I know.
