Also tranny life depends on your tune and tuner.

yep, i wanted my TM fully removed, but my tuned still left some on it, and the right rpm and range. I did some really abusive driving, and the PCM cut the power, and got back into almost immediately. No where near as bad a stock. But it was prob enuff to spare the tranny. Just got my built trans and coolers, and going to have the truck retuned again.

My opinion, I got 160k out of my stock 60 through a lot of abusive driving. My rearend gave out before my tranny if that tells you anything. I would say keep that 80 in the distance, but not too far away that when that 60 goes out you're down hard on a truck.

I run my 60e in my truck pretty hard, but i have done several internal mods to make it hold up. A 80e is stronger, but I like the fact that the 60e is a bit lighter.

I had both in my shop,

4l60e 136lbs
4l80e 182lbs

also the 80e converter is a bit heavier then the 60e, I think 5-10lbs, but i didn't have both to weigh them.

Haha...this is actually KEY. If ur tranny doesnt go the rear end will! Im on #4 with my 10Bolt...the 1st one that blew tore up the drive shaft AND my tranny, so spend the cash on the rear end first and at least upgrade the r&p and at best switch to 14Bolt...

No..its not as strong as an 80e but gets bashed way too much by people who destroy things.

Well stated. I have had incredible luck with my 65E's (even the stock one). Limiting the WOT kick-downs, unnecessary burnouts, keeping it COOL etc does wonders for longevity.

Having a 65E go 10's in an AWD 5500lb truck is proof they can hold IMHO. Others will disagree of course.

I agree with the above on WOT kick downs kills a 60
I had 108,142 miles on my grey truck and treated like an old man and lost my tranny
I would kick it down ever once in awhile with out manual shift and hauled some BIG loads and these two combined apparently killed it
On the other hand I have friend who leaves his accelerator in the floor and he got 240,xxx miles out of his!
IMO it'll hold it just depends on how u drive it
