what would cause a transmission to miss 2nd at WOT
got the truck out last night and ran 6.80@101 with a 1.46 60' but the transmission is skipping 2nd gear all together at WOT. I tried everything to get it to shift 2nd and it wont. I went as far as maxing out the line pressure at wot on gears 1-2&3.
I don't think it's the transmission because I can grab the column and manually grab 2nd when the trans shifts 1st to third. in the burn box and daily cruising it hits 2nd just fine. just at WOT it wants nothing to do with it.
it's a vince B build with a FTI converter. TCI transmission controller. it has a deep pan and the trans fluid is actually around 1" over the full mark on the dipstick. I always run my transmissions a little overfilled and never had a problem in the past. fluid is pink and smells as good as you can expect trans flid to smell (I hate the smell of trans fluid).
the only thing I can think is I'm blowing through the converter? the truck basically pegs 7,000 as soon as foot hits floor. when it shifts first to third gear my shift drop back is only 1,000 rpm. maybe everything is happening too damn fast, or the computer thinks I'm spinning so it grabs third?
I don't see anything in the tune that would cause it to skip 2nd at WOT. all 3 shift points are set to 7,100. all 3 gears are now maxxed out on line pressure at WOT. shift delay is zero...I'm lost.

65e. I'm thinking the converter is just too damn big and is freaking the computer out. it stalls 6k on the trans brake...no telling what it flashes to. I'm leaving the line at a 1,500 foot brake so I'm slamming it pretty damn hard with a heads/cam LS2. I'm going to take a hard look into the transmission software tonight to see if I missed anything. I also talked to Vince and found out how the shift solenoids should be reacting to the shift commands. I'm hoping that the TCI software will let me log the solenoid action. I don't see why it wouldn't. it lets me log all kinds of other **** that I don't need LOL.
I've been needing to pull the converter to be tightened to 5k anyways. might as well drop the pan and check for some crud.

I found the user manual to this TCU. here is a little something that may have caused it although I don't see why...
I have mine set to 0.0. anyone think this could cause my skipped shift?
"WOT minimum shift time:
Allowable Limits: 0.0 - 25.0
Contains a default setting; no need to change. Must be set to a minimum of 0.5 seconds. Allows for time delay from shift signal to actual shift by transmission to avoid stacked shifts"

I'm no expert on the subject, but here's a quote from a totally different subject on a different forum. Not sure if it applies to what you're experiencing or not.
"There are no safety nets in a 700 or 4l60 trans. High hp along with higher rpm cause the 3/4 clutch to centrefuge on during 1/2 shift and destroy the 2/4 band and 3/4 clutch. Too much cross leak between the Teflon rings on the input shaft. Transgo's answer is stronger return springs on the 3/4 clutch pack. It doesn't work."
