I remember reading that the earlier ones didnt have mounting provisions for the shift cable or something.

A 1997 and up has the right mounting for the linkage and the return line in the back. It doesn't have the top center hole in the bell. If you want that and a bunch of improved internals, find a 1999+.
2001+ have a newer designed roller clutch with rollers that supposedly don't skew. (I've shredded one of those so-called improved roller clutches, the older roller clutches have larger diameter rollers. Running the old design now, myself.)

Bump for my question...

I currently run a 4L80E in my Tahoe, pretty sure its a 2005 trans. I am looking to swap in a 2008 4L80E. Anybody see a problem with that? Are all the wiring connections and physical dimensions the same? Will my Vig converter slide right in as well?
Thanks!

Hey Vince! I didn’t scroll down at first and I was re-reading my post thinking..Attitude? Where did he get that from lol.

What I really want to do is drop the separator plate and see if the 1-2 shift fluid hole or whatever you may call it isn’t drilled twice what it’s supposed to be. I want to replace it with a new plate drilled to the smallest diameter. The 1-2 is just too hard. I found an 08 trans and was thinking I could just swap them out and sell mine to a track truck owner, the shift is bad *** at WOT but it’s just as hard at 9mph lol Vince sell me a plate already prepped!
