I want to swap a 4l80e into my 1500. It's a 03 4x4
What year trans should I look for or is there even a difference. I plan on rebuilding it anyway. Also what do you recommend doing to it to hold up to twin turbos and 35" tires. Looking to run around 7psi on a 5.3l
Thanks for the help!

This topic comes up often. IMO I would use a 99 and up unit. I like the fact that it has the correct bell for your engine and also you can run a structural inspection cover. This allows bolts to be installed into the engine oil pan as well as the 12 o'clock bolt hole in the bell housing.

I would say no if anything I like the 99-00 units best. Reason being is the OD roller clutch IMO is weaker in the later units. The years I mentioned have a larger OD clutch rollers which I have seen less failures with. The later style works fine in applications where a guy is not beating the snot out of the thing all the time. If I had to put a hp rating on it I would say 700rwhp. You can retro back to the earlier stuff without an issue if you were to have a failure.
