Default What's the best tire to make a 15X10 wheel hook

Well things have been busy in life. I had a son 4 weeks ago, and have not had a single minute to work on the truck. I'm not complaining, life has been great. I had intentions to make it AWD, and bought everything to convert it over. Well after seeing Foose04 run so well with a 2wd, I just decided to get some good wheels and make some good passes this year. I have yet to make a decent run yet with problems (injectors, broken valve springs, etc). Well anyways, I ordered some wheels from Derek (DTH2006) from 1320wheels. I have the 17x4.5 fronts, and 15x10 rears coming. I really don't care what tires I run, I just want it to hook well. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Personally, would go with a large bias ply slick, such as 29.5 x 10.5 ET Drag. A drag radial also works well if the suspension and track are right.

What is you suspension setup? I have the same set of wheels coming and am trying to decide on what tire to run myself. I am leaning heavily towards a radial slick in a 29.5x10. I am currently running a 28x10x16 Hoosier bias slick and how they work with the new suspension will weight into my decision. Up until recently our local track had very marginal track prep. New owners have taken over and are big in the x275 and real street classes so it will now be preped for radials. So a radial may work good on the new track surface, be a little faster and more stable on the top end.

My suspension is a stock setup with home made Caltrac style bars that is about 4" lower than stock. 2" in the front of the leaf and 2" in the rear of the leaf. If I can get this to hook, I will leave it. If I can't get what I want out of it, I will make a 3 link style setup similar to this.

I run Hoosier 29x10.5W stiff wall slicks. I've done some weak burnouts and they still hook up everytime.

It's all in your suspension. I run a 28/10.5 stiff sidewall slick and I've got my truck hooking up on the street with a lot of nitrous.

So would going with a wider tire like a 11.5 actually hurt things? If it would help, I would go with something like a 29x11.5 stiff sidewall since my original wheels have tires about that height. I still like the look of the Gibbs wheels, but I want the new tires to make some good glory passes.

I don't mind rolling the lip or changing the suspension.

Ok, just letting you know the tire will not clear the leafspring.
