If you could pick a tranny that could hold up anything you throw at it, which one would you choose?

This is like the new "Which Cam" thread. It gets asked about once a week and everyone has a different idea about it.

I will say that i went 4l80e before even i even had enough power to break a 4l60e and i like it. Its nice to have a little peace of mind.

Seems like something that would have been easier to ask in THAT thread so someone doesn't have to jump between 2 threads with the same answer.

Personally, I like the 4l60 for the slightly better OD but just barely (.750 60 and .700 80). And the fact that it's lighter. Other than that its all Cons.
The Shifts on the 80 are closer together, 1,2 gears allow you to get more mph's before shifting, 3rd is the same, and then a slightly lower 4th. But much stronger as stated in the other thread.
Con: It's heavy.

If I could afford the 80 AND a converter for it right now I'd be switching.
