Default whats the difference?

I am looking at picking up a used 4L60e to rebuild over a year or so. Soup to nuts, billet shafts, everything, and I am wondering whats the difference between the early 4l60e's and the late models versions. Are they interchangeable? Is it just the electronics that are different? They are cheap as hell, $3-400, I just want to make sure that I am buying a platform that will work for me.

From what I understand, the 4l60e has been improved upon many times over the years. Of course you might be replacing all those improved parts anyways, but I'd still get a '00-up tranny
