Default What's a used set of 4.10's worth?

I have a guy who has some 4.10's he's trying to sell, and I would like to have. The only deal is, they're used and he hasn't ran them in his truck. He bought them from another guy and had planned on installing but didn't due to gas mileage claims. So anyways, I was just wondering what a set of used gears is worth? By the way they supposodly only have a few thousand miles on them.

I was told the gears had a little less than a 1000 miles on them. This is what the shop that took them out told me also.

To me a used gearset isn't worth much without knowing more about the history. Who set them up, pics of the wear pattern, what brand, pinion shim etc. are all good things to know.

I would be a little leary if you didn't actuall ride in the vehicle or trust the person well that had them in. Problem is if they weren't set up properly the first time and had a little whine and they drove it that way, you will never be able to set them up without some whine and or odd wear pattern issues. For that reason I wouldn't give much for them. You never know. I gave $25 shipped for a set of gears off ebay that set up fine and are running perfect though. I didn't have to pay someone to do it so I wasn't out much money if they were bad.

also look at the teeth and compare them to a new set. if they werent set up right the teeth can be sharp, worn, broke.

to me gears are like underwear you dont get em second hand. a guy from another site told me about speed engineeering. i found some on there for 161.99 for a new set of 4.10. if you gonna give him a 100. might as well and go for the new ones. at least youll have piece of mind.
