Default when before something in my drivetrain kaboom's

I wanna push a little more power through this built motor, currently 8psi with the TVS2300 and 10.7:1 LS7.

The 6l80 transmission has modified clutch packs, 4.11 ratios but aside of that everything is stock. The car does 700-750 bhp right now, and 800 would be even nicer

I launch in Auto 4WD with this thing and I clocked what seems like a sub 4 second pull from 0 to 60mph.

What are the weak points in the drivetrain, what could I do to beef them up, and whats the max power you guys are making without breaking anything?

You can find a video in the multimedia section

The first weak link in your drivetrain is the operator; NEVER go WOT in Auto4wd. NEVER. Launch in 2HI or 4HI. You'll shock your transfer case using the Auto option. Guys have blown these transfer cases with near-factory setups by launching in the Auto mode. No offense, just want to make it VERY clear before you find out the hard way

The next weak points in your drivetrain with a built trans is the rear driveshaft, especially if you're running beyond the factory speed limiter on a regular basis. Your power levels probably don't help that situation either, lol. I would recommend a driveshaft upgrade or at minimum a driveshaft safety loop to save your other hardware when it gives up. Also, if your truck started off with a 5.3 or smaller the 10-bolt rear is a weak link of sorts, especially at your power level. Usually the G80 is the more often broken component, but guys do blow up those diffs. A stronger, cooler differential cover or a girdle are bandaids to help prevent this, but some guys just swap in a 14-bolt and call it good.

Thanks, Im new to trucks, so I definitely didnt know that about the auto option will launch in 4HI then!

I wouldnt call my transmission built, since it just has modified clutch packs, but thanks for the heads up on the rear-end and driveshaft. Any recommendations on who sells those upgrades?

Finally, is there anything that needs to be done to the front components since im launching in 4wd?

The front suspensions/differentials have held some pretty high powered stuff. There's been a couple guys swap diffs but I believe most of the 4WD guys stay pretty stockish up front. Limiting straps help keep the power planted and I'm assuming at your power level this is possibly already a problem. I know 2004SSS and Krambo have both done some work to their front suspension IIRC

thanks again guys, now for the million dollar question, is there any forum vendor or shop that can help me figure this out in terms of what BUILT parts I need and how to get them?

I came from a world of corvettes, had a SC Z06, TT Z06, Cammed Z06, and my recent ZR1. There were vendors with everything, if you can dream of it, chances are it already exists and they are all quality products, whether you were looking for built transmissions, rear-ends, coil overs, output shafts, full big brake kits, and so on. This doesnt seem to be the case with performance trucks or maybe with the forum? It would be really nice to find a one stop shop that can help me figure out my drivetrain

There are two different transmission builders on the right who can build you a solid 6L80E in the event that yours doesn't hold up. Also, the same guys who build 6L80s for Vettes will build them for your truck not as much one-stop-shop stuff here because trucks tend to be bought by a wide variety of income levels, and since the one-stop-shop guys tend to charge a little more for their services, I can't think of one that just works on trucks, unlike the many shops you see that will take your stock Vette or Camaro or other LSx car and build it to the moon for you. There just aren't enough guys out there throwing down the cash to support that type of shop. However, many of the shops that work on other LSx vehicles will gladly work on our trucks. Also, you can find the parts yourself by doing searches on this forum, and then take them to the shop of your choice if you'd prefer not to do the install yourself. There are big brake kits, driveshafts, etc available, just have to look. Look to Randy's Ring and Pinion for rear upgrades, Driveshaft Specialist for a better driveshaft, Circle D for converters, 14-bolts can be found several places, mostly junkyards and dealerships, etc. There is a wealth of information here, for sure.

I would say contact either Circle D or RPM over on ls1tech for what you are looking for. I did a quick search and there are a few places that sell/make these billet parts. Two of which I have purchased from in the past but they are expensive. Last time I checked both companies above advertise that they play with these units. The intermediate shaft and dampener seem to be where the issues are with these units. HTH Vince
