So my 01 Sierra 5.3 z71 ext cab is starting its mods. Its had exhaust for awhile and Ive proved it did up the hp at little. I raced the exact same truck without exhaust and pulled on him.
Anyways, my intake is on order and my truck is getting custom tuned in the next week or so.
Will the stock 460LE (I believe this is the correct tranny model) hold that kind of power? Is it safe to drive daily? I dont get on it much, but I do lay into it from time to time.

Being an 01 I'm gonna assume it's got a few miles on it and with what you have planned so far I wouldn't worry about the trans much (YET).... Just start a fund for a new FLT trans so when the one you have does finally start to go you will be ready. If it is in good health now, I would suggest putting in the corvette servos since they are cheap.

I am a little over 112xxx. And what do the corvette servos do? I dont know **** about auto trannys

keep the 2-4 band from slipping, a common problem for the 4L60. But if you put corvette servos in, you'll be firming up the 1-2 shift and the reaction sun shell probably won't last long. 2000-2002 are real bad about breaking shells. Good luck tho..

Just make sure the tuner leaves in most of the TQ Management. With 112,000 miles, you're on borrowed time as far as performance goes otherwise. If I were you, I'd buy a tranny now, or at least have the money for one sitting in the checking account if you really want to get the most out of the tuning.

I have been told these transmissions hold close to 500 hp stock without problems.
Is this true?
Is the transmission tunable in that it will last longer?

Not even close. They won't even do stock hp levels reliably - that's why they have torque management in the first place.

But they are tunable. Put the 'vette servo in and have your tuner firm up the line pressures a bit. With a high-mileage trans I'd have him pull no more than 50% of the torque management out. I know others will say that you can pull all of it out if you do those two things but I wouldn't for a daily driver.

This is how I'm running and it's how it's staying until I get things to where I can get FLT to build a unit for me.

Are the vette servos a pain to put in? Are they a couple hour job or an all day thing? Where do I order them?

It's not very hard you just need to make sure the snap ring is fully seated in the correct groove when you put it all back together.

Oregon Performance Transmission is a good place to get them from. They sell both direct through their website or on ebay.
