who has broke a 10-bolt?
if you broke it, what part broke?
i have found 1350 yoke upgrades, after market axles, and as always the detroit locker. so what parts make it weak and make people want to upgrade? i'm not talking about camaro 7.5" crap i'm talking our 8.6".

i think i'm gonna do the 1350 yoke http://store.summitracing.com/partde...DPY150&FROM=MG on top of my new 4.88 gears and these axles http://store.summitracing.com/partde...PA6013&FROM=MG supose to be like 30% stronger than stock. so who makes the strongest gears?
hopefully this will hold a stick shifted cam'd 383.

The 10-bolt housing itself is weak. The center section distorts and bends like a plastic salad bowl when you load it up with enough torque. The distortion allows the ring and pinion contact to become less than optimal and can focus too much power at the tips and edges of the teeth causing breakage.
The tell-tale sign this is happening will be fluid leakage and then finding the cover bolts are loose. The flexing causes the cover bolts to walk themselves out. Ironically, lockers cause more housing stress than limited-slip differentials do.
Unless you have some forced induction and performance tires that get better traction, housing flex is unlikely to be a problem for you.

the pinon shaft pin sheared off and started wollering out the holes in the carries and the spiders started breaking apart and then that in turn killed the ring and pinion. so my boss bought me a rearend from the junkyard that had a g80 in it, but since i dont have that much power im not worried about breaking it anytime soon.

thats what i was wondering. i've seen these and there not costly. also what if you weld the axle tubes all the way around on the center section? i just here people say its not welded so why not weld it?
james, i don't plan on dong the turbo for awhile. this is for my tahoe and i'll be running a 275/60r17 so traction should be good. what do you think? should i upgrade the yoke and axles or just leave it al stock? i here of people breaking the yoke straps. is thee a way to install u-bolts with out upgradeing to the 1350 yoke?
