Default Who installed their 80e Transgo HD2 without doing the pump mods?

Curious who has done the HD2 without pulling the pump and drilling the holes? I read that those are primarily for cooling purposes. I never bothered and wish I had when I did the valve body mods. I've been experiencing above average temps lately after beating on the truck (high 190s). The temps started to get higher after I started doing boosted 4wd launches, now they're always a bit higher regardless of whether I'm beating on it. Trans shifts fine just how it always has, just runs hotter. Cruising 140s, traffic 160s, beating on it 190s. I'll probably throw a filter in it since they're cheap. Fluid color on the dipstick is pink and clean as well.

When did you do the swap? Is it just a function of warmer ambient temps? Do you have an adequate cooler? The 80's run hotter than the 60's do.

From what I've read the pump mods aren't necessary.

I did the swap about a year ago. 6 months behind a stock motor, and now about a month behind ~12psi. I don't think it's a function of warmer ambient temps, but I suppose it's possible. I'll drop the pan and check things out.

I agree with GM, those temps are aren't too serious yet. Not something that I'd worry about yet, maybe once you go past 220+ after beating on it would it worry me.

Your turbo upped your powerband across the RPM range. You're def adding more heat at all times! I did the mod, but because I'm a stock 5.3 I can't get temps over 110 or so no matter what so far.

Junkyard 80 w/ just valve body mods from the HD2 kit. I have noticed higher temps since going FI. I figured since the truck is making more torque, the converter is making more heat. Mine are about the same temps as yours. On a side note, does your 80 seem slow shifting into 3rd @ WOT? Mine seems to release for a millisecond shift and then re apply, feels very mechanical compared to 1-2 shift.

I think mine does that on the 2-3 at wot. 1-2 is blazing fast.

My 2-3 is nearly identical to my 1-2 at wot. Fast and firm. What size did you guys drill your 2-3 hole to? I didn't drill 2-3, just left the check ball out per Jakes recommendation.
