I'm looking for a converter that'll stall in the 3000rpm range but still be able to tow ocassionally (4-5k lbs)

I have suncoast. http://www.suncoastconverters.com/gmc/gm_products.html not a sponsor, so you can kill the link yourself if you want, but I had a yank and after three pumps going out in my trans, I had to get another converter. At the time, we thought it was the needle bearings in the converter that caused my woes. So, calling around talking to the actual maunfacturer of the parts, clutches for the converters...they all recommended this guy who runs suncoast now. He only deals with diesel, but a call from my trans guy and he glady built me billet 2800 4l80e converter for 875 bucks. Rock solid. But thats me, Yank was helpful, but I had an inside line to supposedly one of the industry's top converter builders. There is a Dodge diesel around here in Gaithersburg "supposedly" putting around 1000hp to the ground and hasn't had any issues yet. I can take pics of his 4 wheel burn out spots next time I am up that way if they are still there. LOL

I have a ProTorque in the 4L80-E. The first one I owned was in the 4L60-E and I liked it enough to be a repeat customer. Both of them are 10.5" and stall between 3000 and 3800RPM. That's probably more than what you're looking for in terms of stallspeed, but they've got different ones to choose from.

Thanks Vince, but it may be a while before it finds its home as it looks like the indestructble 4l80e is having some issues these days. Maybe I'm asking too much out of a stock 4l80e w/shiftkit

don't get me wrong, it still shifts quick and to most it would probably even feel firm, just not firm like it used to.
