That's a lot of scratch lol, but if you're at the power level where you need it I guess it's very necessary. How strong is my stock ds on my 2001 rcsb Silverado? By that I mean what is my rwhp limit?

Most of the failures I've heard of are more related to speed than power.

I've been running the stock GM one for 12 years now but have good u-joints from Drive Line here in Jacksonville. Had it balanced too while I was there.

Well let me ask one last question: what is the limit I should adhere to pertaining to speed? When I order my stall, my motor and trans will be going in and after a wet shot, I hope to trap 115+.

Actually, if I don't trap 118+, something will be terribly wrong.

Keep it below 100 on a stock shaft imo

I have been 120-125mph hundreds of times with no problem from the stock driveshaft with good u-joints.

Lots of them wont survive that though. Some are longer than others, some spin faster because of the different gear ratios, and most aren't balanced as well as yours is. A grenaded shaft can cost you a lot more in repairs than a properly built and balanced DS would have cost in the first place.

Both my U-joints were still in place on the truck when my factory one piece let go. I even had it re-balanced a few weeks prior because I knew it would see some speed.

Any case, I can recommend DriveShaftShop to others. They made a new one and could tell me it was safe to 170 before critical shaft speed would come into play. Wish I still had it, but it was built for my 5speed. Now I got a locals shop steel shaft that just broke a u-joint on it. I'll be honest, i don't trust it near as much.

Here's the old DSS piece, I want to say it was like 525 shipped.
