I can understand wanting to cross the line at the the peak of 3rd but is it at the expense of a few tenths off the line? We could all argue the point till were blue in the face but it all comes down to what works best for you combo. Also Take this into account? I have a stock 3.42 rear with a 29.xx tire, If I go to a 4.10 on a 29 then what would be my final drive ratio? Hypothetically 4.10 on a 29 would get me out of the hole faster? Now then a smaller tire would reduce my final drive ratio and in theory should get me out of the hole faster. But if I couldn't hook the smaller tire due to the increased gear ratio then my et would be ? Lower? Races are won on et not trap speed. There are Infinite tire/gear combos that work for some but not for all. It really just depends on your setup.
the guy who has my old s10 ss runs 12.6s now wiht the 4.3 and runs a 275 40 17 drag rad gets 1.6s on it. and that thing is light in the rear with 3.73 gears.

The MT drag rads hook hard on the cars/trucks ive been in. hell on mine even. Street races same thing. I cant see you guys blowing away a 275 40 17 drag radial at the light once you get them warmed up. maybe someone here has actaully tried a mt drag rad lower tan 28 inches can chime in besides me but the mts by far are much better than the nitto or mh or even bfgs set up.

Yea, might as well add 3.42's as well. A list for everyone.

Ive been able to pull a 1.6x on 26" tall 255 mickeys.
Tire pressure is a huge factor in traction!!!

yes 255 50 16 drag rads mts are great also. the 275 40 17 is lighter by 2 pounds but the wheels are heavier on the 17s

My point is that yes you do want the proper tire/gear ratio to maximize your et/setup but not just to achieve a high mph. I had a T/A that trapped 110 but only ran 12.9 and a mustang that trapped 100 and ran 13.4. T/A needed more tire to maximize the bottom end off the line power and the mustang had a great gear/tire setup. Not trying to start crap with you cause I've read alot of your posts in the past and you got great knowledge about tires/gears, just saying that trap speed means nothing if you dont get out of the hole, which is how alot of races are won.

Both of you guys are correct. But you should be able to hook on a smaller tire if it is inflated properly and its a good compound.

Most guys here do run a taller than required tire. a good percentage of these guys are not putting down over 500+ RWHP either. But like stated above it really depends on your setup!
