Default Will a 4L60E hold up?

Just checking to see if a built 4L60E can handle 500-550 rwhp. This is going to be my daily driver and maybe a track run every once in a while. I will be running a maggie 112 with a built 6.0 in a NNBS Sierra 2wd crew cab. Also what size TC would yall recommend. If I have to go with a 80E how much trouble is it going to be to put one in my truck. Thanks

Yes PROPERLY prepared will work no problem; but 4L60s are pretty unforgiving as well, get the parts selection and/or prep clearances wrong and you'll have it back out in 5-10K miles. There is no need for an 80E on a Radix truck *especially* a 2WD truck and you DON'T want to pay the gas mileage penalty with that inefficient trans, I would highly discourage a 80E swap in your case.

Mr. P.

Sorry forgot to add, converter for a Radix = 2600 minimum, 2800 for hot-street, 3000-3200 race specific depending on the combo. Remember that the stator rate will affect the converter's behavior quite a bit, not all 2800 converters are the same! As this is your DD I will advise not to waste your money on a Yank product. You may find that some converter companies make a very 'tight' 3000 that drives similarly to another companies 'loose' 2600-2800. Again PM me if you are interested in more discussion.

2600 Vig here. IMHO, no matter how well u build a 60, its a failure waiting to happen @ >500rwhp. Some last longer than others and some claim success, but its inevitable until proven diff. Buy the 80, build it right the first time and u won't have to worry. Of course tradeoff is parasitic power loss, and maybe mileage, but I think the latter in minor. A built 60 will cost as mush as an 80, and lives on borrowed time. R/

I did the 80E swap and get the same mileage if not better than the 60E..
and the stock converter is just right for DD, its almost comparable to the Yank TT3000.

I know FLT and Performabuilt advertise their 4L60e's are capable of 600-700hp. Is this not true? The price difference in the 60e and 80e are not much, but I'm hearing all the other extras that go along with a 60e to 80e swap is what drives the price up. Do any of you know someone that has done the swap in a nnbs truck that I could talk with to see how much trouble and cost this would be.

FLT has a new updated 60e coming out that will be stronger than the current level 5. I think it's coming out in march.

Search using keywords "80 swap" . You will find more reading than you have time for. If you drive like a teenager, get an 80. I am 35 and my 6.0/sts truck has been on a stock 60e w/ vette servo for two years. I baby it tho. very few wot runs and no 3 to 1 downshifts. Calm driver, good tuning, 60 built right will be fine. hard driver that likes to show off, get an 80. Just my .02 cents.

My FLT 65E is working on 2 (or is it 3 lol) years old with nothing but pure abuse, nitrous, turbo, n/a... You name it, nonnie can vouch, I'm hard on stuff.

Mr P, I don't know where you're getting your info, but a lot of that is incorrect... Especially the part about a Yank converter being junk... I had a SS3600 in my truck from when my FLT went in brand new, until this week... The only reason for the change is I wanted a different stall speed with my new setup and got a hell of a deal, if it hadn't been for these two things, I would have been back with Yank. The new one is a PI BTW...

The setup in my sig isn't what's in the truck

That being said, for the OP, a nicely built 60 will do you fine, it depends on the weight of your truck and driving habits mostly IMO...

I dont abuse my truck. Being this is my dd I cant afford to have it sitting around waiting to be fixed. I may take it to the track once or twice and thats it, and definitely not going to be doing any street racing. I just like the idea of being able to suprise a few people when the need arises.
