Default Will a 8.5 locker fit?

I know are rearends are 8.6 on the NBS. but i was wondering if a 8.5 might fit? there is a guy selling a eaton locker out of a 96 silverado and I was just double checking to make sure it will work. thanks for the help Gene

yes it should work. you just have to remember that 99 and up trucks require different size bearing and shims for the carrier.

If it is a factory gov-lok it will not fit. The hub diameter is smaller, and they dont make a bearing to make it work. If it is an aftermarket Eaton posi it will work, they all have the larger hub diameter. The 99-up truck bearing is larger i.d. and o.d. /you can buy bearings to put large hub diffs into early trucks, but not vice-versa.

No. The splines are the same, but the dimensions of the components are different.

mzoo knows what he is talking about. You wouldn't want a stock 96 eaton anyways (junk)

I picked up a powertrax for my truck (8.6 ringgear) for $360.00 - funny thing is I had to special order it, no one seems to stock it for the NBS
