Yank SS3600 or PI 3000 for my combo
As most of you know, my truck is down for another round of changes due to a broken piston. I'm going to be changing my setup a little to make the truck run a bit better. My question is in the converter dept...
I've currently got an SS3600 (2.4 STR) in the truck. Its fairly tight driving around town, locks up fine, and under boost, flashes to 45-4700 RPM, which may be a tad high to be using all the tq this turbo setup makes.
I've also gotten my hands on a brand new Precision Industries 3000. Now I know a lot of the PIs have a reputation of being looser feeling than most converters (1.9ish STR I believe) and I don't want to change converters and end up with this one still seeing over 4K under boost.
Who has ran both brands with F/I and can comment on this?
Should I swap and see?
The old setup was right at 500rwhp, the new one will be 600+ pretty easily...

You should contact both to see what they think. The PI you have was it built for a turbo? I have noticed that the Yank converters have a thicker converter hub on them. With that being said and seeing hubs break on different brands, Yank gets my vote. Vince

Hey Vince! You still in Hot Springs staying out of the frozen tundra? Hope you had some nice (well deserved) time off
I don't believe this PI was built specifically for a turbo app, but it is billet and does have an anti balloon plate... This Yank is actually a nitrous converter so its pretty tough, Dave built it for me a little different than an off the shelf SS3600 when I ordered it a while back after I told him what it was going in and what I would be throwing at it.

I would check out circleD... They are a sponser on tech and they offer free shipping to board members... Do a search on tech, alot of people really like them, and they are a billet converter. I have a friend with one and it really woke his truck up... I plan on switching to one soon.

I called Circle D and they said they didn't really have a converter built for what I wanted I've wanted to try them out though
The main reason I am debating on these two converters is because that's what I've got in my posession.

Might give Edge a call, I got one of their converters waiting to go in my 4l80e. Haven't got it in yet, but so far been VERY happy with the customer service and willingness to talk to me and build a converter speced to my exact needs and wants not just an "off the shelf" unit.

No I came home last Sunday to -0 temps. Today it is in the 50's and raining here in Chicago. Flooding everywhere and the snow is disappearing. Welcome home!
