I'm going to dig up my old thread here....
I never dropped my truck, but still looking at just pulling the blocks in back.
Do I need to get any shims to get the pinion angle right?

TIA

ok here is what you need to do.......

1. go to http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ and order four u-bolts part number 15002781 they are the shorter 2wd u-bolts that will be the perfect length for removing the factory block.

2. pm trever1t and get the info on his hookup to order the same front bump stops for the front lower control arms, they are belltech, they are excellent quality, and they same ones that he used in this thread on his own truck https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...light=trever1t

3. wait for all of that stuff to get to your doorstep

4. take apart and remove blocks from the rear end and reinstall using new u-bolts i didn't use any shims and haven't had any issues with vibrations, trim bump stop if necessary. (I didn't think mine needed to, so i didn't, and haven't had any bottoming out issues)

5. jack up front end and replace the stock bump stops with the belltech ones

6. turn the bolt for the torsion keys counter clockwise 7 whole turns which should get you close to your goal(maybe more or less depending on preference which is why I said to lower the back first, so you can level the front height to the back height). The front control arms should be just barely kissing the bump stops.

7. get an alignment! any time there is any front end work done always have the alignment checked!

8. enjoy your new lowered look without any loss in ride comfort!

Thumbs up

006rcsb:
Thanks for the quick and thorough reply

I posted in the classifieds looking for a set of U-bolts (it seems like somebody always some for sale)

I took a good look at my truck and I think that I may only need to drop the front about 1" or so to make it look the way I want.

no problem alanderson1978, I just did the exact same thing to my 06 regular cab short bed and have had no problems with it, but I later bought the short rear bump stops from belltech (also shown in trever1t's write up) and installed them with a lowering shackle to level out the truck, without the shackle and short bumpstop in the rear it kept a slight rake to it still, any way its level now and still no problems.
