"Timing Tunder" or "MAF Translator" - worth it?

Default "Timing Tunder" or "MAF Translator" - worth it?

TByrne sells these items and both claim to give some power - but what I'm wondering is, for the money - wouldn't a programmer do the same thing?

They basically allow you to set injector pulse width at Idle and WOT...at least the ones that I have seen do that
