Default 01 burb engine swap wanting reliability and same mileage

well I have an 01 burb with around 180k. It is my Wife's dd. She likes it so no need to go buy something new.
Anyway it gets good gas mileage (16-17 in town, have seen 20 hwy).
I am always working on stuff and we move a lot. So I picked up a car hauler.
After we move from tx to wa I plan to swap the motor/trans.

Trans is going to be a proformabuilt heavy hauler.

Engine is undesided. I wouldn't mind more power, but don't want to suffer with fuel cost. So I am thinking about going with an aluminum block l33 or ls1. Maybe a small cam like the xr265. Will be doing full exhaust (long tubes, off road y, ext).

I have been all over the place with ideas motor wise. I want a create motor or find something under 20k miles. Even thought about the new lsx 376. I just don't want to go overboard for something my wife drives.

What do you guys think?

reliability and same mpg. hmmm. . . . leave it alone I guess. If you must a 5.3 crate motor. You go any bigger and you will see a hit in mpg.

Sounds like you really want to spend money on a motor, so I wouldn't worry about what gas mileage you get.

well I want to put something new into it before I don't have a choice. It is the fam hauler, when it brakes my wife can't go anywhere. Plus moving around every year or two I don't want to worry about driving it 2k miles pulling a trailer.

Right now the trucks runs ok. Has some idle issues with the A/C on ( surges as the compressor kicks on and off). Other then that the 180k is the only reason I want to swap it out.
