Default 02 Silverado, 5.3

Alright guys, I'm from the other side (Ford; gasp) but I have nothing against Chevy's. Before I bought my Mustang GT (another gasp) I drove a 98 Silverado with the 350. Pretty quick truck but I wanted a car. Anyways, when I had my truck I raced a buddy of mine with an 87 Iroc with the 350 I believe, and he put atleast two cars on me from a 10 mph roll up til about 70 mph I'd say. Well, soon after I got a 97 GT and put a few cars on his Iroc. After that I upgraded to a faster 99 GT with a few mods like 4.10 gears, pullies, and exhaust. Well, buddy of mine has a very very nice 02 Silverado, SWB with the 5.3, automatic, about 30,000 miles. He's also got some 18 inch chrome wheels and the truck is lowered. Now, heres a little info. He had just flows when I met him. Well we messed around some just going back and fourth racing. We never really got past 70 mph I'd say, I figure it would just get uglier for him with aerodynamics and weight not in his favour. But anyways, when we'd play around I'd put easily 3 cars on him. So anyways, he didn't like that too much. He went and got a hypertech programmer for his truck and knocked it up to 91 octane. So we raced again, not real good, we prolly went from like 20 MPH to 60 mph and his front bumper was at my back bumper the whole time. Now I have a few issues that may explain this, or may not. They are my third gear shift fork was cracked at the time, and was a little tough getting it in, another was soon after I spun a bearing, not sure if that would effect me in any way performance wise, and after putting my engine back together we figured out that the whole intake system the guy before me was running was jacked up. It wasn't even made for my car, so basically I had a lot of air getting sucked in from outside, so how that effected performance wise I dunno. I'm just curious what you guys think? I know my car isn't unbeatable, but I'm just curious what the situation is here because his truck is a lot more heavier than my car and we're pretty close I'd say HP wise, depending how much the air intake thing was messing with my performance. I really don't think it was an accurate race because we never got going too fast because we didn't want to get pulled over. So help me out here guys. BTW, the previous owner had a timeslip of 13.7... now I'm not the best driver but I think I could get somewhere around there, maybe a low 14 or so. Anyways, tell me what you guys know

Sorry, guess I got caught up into the story too much. I'm just curious if these trucks are really that quick or if I just suck at driving? And how those that have had encounters with new GT's how did it go? Guess I'm just trying to get a truck drivers perspective on this.

well a friend of mine has a few mods like programing, intake, no cats and borla/cutout
and he beats older gt's (dont know if he has raced a new one) but i mean for what these trucks weigh the get pretty fast, i know another dude that hit 14.3 with 3.42's not cats, borla, diablo and 17 inch wheels with small profile tires.(set up are similer)

My stock rcsb 5.3 has probably suprised a few GT's. I rarely win but can sometimes make a good race of it. I bet with a few mods I can **** off quite a few of them on the street.

Thanks for the replies guys. As far as the older GT's they're quite a bit slower than the newer ones. I know these trucks are pretty quick but it seems like that programmer gave him 50 hp, haha. I really need to go from a stop to 100 race, that way we get a good estimate instead of this messing around back and fourth. It's not a real big deal though because I'm in the process of selling it and looking at getting a 2003 Mach 1, which I think he is underestimating . Thanks for the help guys.
