02 Stock torque converter codes
Called the dealer today to get a price on a stock 02 GMC 5.3 2 wheel drive torque converter. They said I needed a 4 digit code off of the converter that is in my truck. What does this 4 digit code mean and what different codes are there. The codes on my converter are
016A5
TMBX 242D
6642
Which one are they wanting??

Re: 02 Stock torque converter codes
I dont want to buy one.. $150 is way too much. The dealer said today that the new one was going to be about $279.. The one that I am getting also has the TMBX so that is great news.. Thanks Keith. What does those numbers mean?? I assume that the "T" means truck and the "MBX" means something else. I tried to find the breakdown of the codes on the net but could not find them. When did the TMBX converters start being installed in the trucks??

Pulling your tranny out of your new 02 truck 3 times and counting is not fun. I have the cuts and burns to prove it... Look its bleeding again!!!

I've got 500 miles on my converter out of my 02 Sierra SLE 5.3L reg cab truck. I wasn't trying to push it on you. Hey, if you want to spend $279 for one with 0 miles instead of one for $150 with 500 miles, then that's up to you.

Re: 02 Stock torque converter codes
If I am going to buy one used I can get one from around here for $50. (We have already bought 4 for other trucks). If I was going to replace my converter with a stocker then $150 would be a good price on yours but because I am only needing it to build a stall out of I dont need a low miles converter. The reason I called the dealer was to find out what code(s) do I need to look for on the converter sticker. Also The dealer is always a lot more then everywhere else. Not trying to be an *** but $150 plus shipping (around $30-$40) is still a little too high for a USED converter.
