Default 02 suburban vs. 00 durango

I am trying to prove a point to someone
about the new Suburbans. He seems to think that the 1/2 ton burbs are slow
turds. I am trying to tellhim the smooth ride is decieveing on the burb an
the power on it is very liniar. Not to mention that it is an LS1 based
engine and it doesnt really come alive until over 3K. He even thinks its
worse from a 60+ stab on the throttle. Anyone can feel free to throw some
input in here if they have it comparing the 2 rigs 00 Durango (non RT) Vs.
02 Burb.

How would these 2 rigs do going toe to toe from a stop and from a 60 roll. I currently have an 02 burb and before that it was an 00 durango. But I never paid any attention to the durango being that it was a dodge product.

Well, weight is a big issue here. You're comparing a mid size (read smaller than a Tahoe) Durango vs. a full size (read BIGGER than a Tahoe) Suburban.

The Suburban will obviously be slower no matter how you look at it right out of the hole unless you get it as a 2500 with the 8.1.

With that said, Durango's aren't speed machines by any stretch of the imagination so it's not as if the Durango is gonna walk away with anything.

In the end, you get much more for your money with a Suburban. Question is, does he need the people and cargo capacity of a Suburban or would a Durango fill the bill better.

Personally I'd never consider a Dodge anyway. Way to many transmission and electrical problems. The 2000 Ram 2500 4x4 I was using (along with my 2500HD) this past weekend to help move family mysteriously decided it wasn't going to start. Thankfully this happened after we were done. But I traced it back to the PCM as the gauges wouldn't even go through a self test upon turning on the power. The local Dodge dealer confirmed it was a short in a power buss.

In the end here, you're comparing apples to oranges. The only thing these two have in common is V8 engines and that they are classified as SUV's.

Yes I know its apples to oranges but my burb feels much stronger than the durango did. Not only that its acceleration is MUCH better. It just keeps pulling and pulling when you stand on it. where the durango would fall on its face after about 85-90. anyone have some 1/4 mile specs on the durango and 02 burb?

Well, perhaps you 'Burban feels stronger is because it (like you said) benefits from the LS1.

Comparitively, the Durango uses an old skool V8 architecture/design that dates back to the 60's.

I've also commonly heard compliants from even R/T owners that they think their 360's are somewhat "dogs" despite their marketing and sporty image, let alone what a 318 in a lesser variant would feel like.

I don't have 1/4 mile times as I don't have nor have raced a newer 'Burban.
