Default 03 Silv SS vs. 04 ECSB 6.0

Awhile back someone posted a thread on what would be faster, a silv.ss or an ecsb 6.0 with the lq4 (I believe 325 hp). My friend and cousin have both of these trucks and we wanted to see how they stacked up against each other. The SS had a superchips tune, x-pipe, 40 series flows, and a volant. The 6.0 had a magnaflow muffler with a the factory 3.73 gears. We raced 4 times. 2 times from a dead stop. Both times from the dead stop the SS took a full truck length on the start, BUT the 6.0 got up and passed at around 80. At 100, the trucks were within a half of truck length with the 6.0 ahead. From a 20 mph roll, the 6.0 pulled away from the start all the way to the speed limiter somewhere after 100. (I think 108?). I was really suprised and my friend in the SS was really mad that he spent so much money and a truck 20,000 less beat him with virtually no mods. The 6.0 only has like 500 miles on it, but I will get him to go to the track to provide you guys with some hard numbers. The SS has been to the track and runs consistent 15.3's all night long.

Its those damn 20's. You could prolly shave 20 lbs off each wheel if you got some smaller lightweight wheels(for racing only).

Personally if I was your friend I wouldnt be mad because the SS is a special truck man iit wears the SS badge and it will be one of those rides 20 years from now will be one of the only true muscle truck at least the bottom of the 3 but still. On another note I dont know if GM had even planned to make the 1/2 ton 2wd 6.0 and if they did they didnt know when they were making the SS-I heard that the new 6.0 1/2 tons are basiclly the leftovers of the SS's that werent made. He shouldnt be mad he has a bad *** looking truck and if I had the choice to get one or the other I would get the SS --AWD can be really nice!

The 6.0 ecsb has factory gm 20's with some monster trucks tires, 285/55/20. The SS is a bad *** truck, i just wish it were faster. The 6.0 is a special edition truck, I think only 2500 were made and only to selected states. Cali was one of those states. The package was $2800 and included the 6.0, the 20's, and a couple of other things like the tranny cooler. HOWEVER, the 6.0 is fucked right now. We went to lower it and guess what, it doesn't have coils, it has torsion bars. We ordered torsion keys and it only lowered it like 1 inch. GM must have lowered it from the factory because the factory keys were the same that came in the lowering kit. Its like a 2wd truck with the suspension of a 4wd. We are going to try and use McGaughrys spindles to lower it now. Nothing but a headache!

I think the post you are reffering to was an SS against an LQ9 1500. The truck in your post is an LQ4 2500 which is not as fast.

the dealer said it was not a high output 345 hp motor, and it was rated at 325 hp. The salesman could be wrong though.

go race them in the rain J/k but your friend seriously shouldn't be mad. The SS's aren't that fast, but that is just what you have to accept them you buy a 5400lb NA truck. I don't know where you got that 20k difference in the price though. Sticker on the 6.0 half tons is definately not $20,000.

Yeah, the sticker price on the 6.0 Vortec HO is $28k-35k depending on the extras. I have no idea how it performs against other vehicles. One of my Hemi buddies (4 door) is chomping at the bits to get at me.

Has anyone run one of these Vortec HOs against anything? Or was this case the real deal? I would have thought the SS would have been the quicker truck.
