Perhaps instead of buying heads, should I consider port and polishing my stock ones? Pros/Cons?

That cam is too big for that truck with that small of a converter and lack of gear muchless that 5.3. It'd be a complete turd an you may have to flycut the pistons for clearance of the valves.

How about you give some ideas or a goal that you are tryin to reach and do more research. Honestly i wouldnt go past a 228 intake on a 5.3 with a 3800+ converter and 4:30+ gears.

P&P heads would be fine if you can find someone good enough to do them. Id just send them to Texas Speed for a cnc and valve job imho

That cam is huge for a 5.3L. Im running a 227/235 .612/.624 113LSA and its alittle on the big side. Something around a 224 would be more suited for the 5.3 and still have decient road manners. and that would need about a 3400 rpm converter to be happy.

I would look into comp XR265 cam. I believe it's 216/218 . And that's a tried and proven cam by members on here with 4.8/5.3's.And if you want a lil more lift than contact PatG and spend the small fee of 25$ and get a custom spec cam. I had him spec my cam and he is spot on I have great power down low and all they way up. Either way that cam ur looking at is more suited for a 6.0 or bigger with a 4000 stall in a much lighter Fbody or something. You 5.3 would become a anchor with that cam.

As the others have mentioned, What are your goals for the truck? Is this a daily driver? Do you tow? Is gas mileage a factor?

The cam you chose is HUGE and the converter is a mis match.

Let us know how you really will be using the truck and you will get some good solid feedback here.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. Ok so gas mileage isn't really a factor as long as its not super terrible. It will be a daily driver and I don't usually tow a lot. I don't race very often but I want some power when I need it. This is why I came here, I'm getting good feedback here. Got a quote to CNC port my stock heads. Looking at around $2000. Little steep as I found some decent heads starting at $1400.

Spoke to comp cams, told me the XR265HR 212/218 would be perfect for stock top and bottom end with a 1800-2000 stall max and if I were to do heads I should find a little more aggressive cam. The XR269HR is 216/220 and the XR273HR 220/224.

Your on the right track now. That cam is a proven performer for a daily driver without alot of other needed additions.

Here is a good read:

I would get a nice set of long tube headers before buying cylinder heads.
