Default 08 5.3 cooler thermostat??

I notice with my 08 5.3 CC that it runs better when the engine is coming up to temp, any reason to keep the stock thermostat?
Would a cooler one hurt anything?
My truck is pretty much stock, but has a mild 87/89 octane blackbear tune.

Just curious...

Thanks...kevin

I've never seen any gains from a cooler Tstat on a NA engine.. so I'd have to say skip that and get Exhaust or something?

You definately get some gain with a 160 degree t stat... Not a lot, but a noticeable gain...

I have noticed that my truck preforms better at cooler temps also. I have been considering a 160 or 180 degree stat but I was concerned if it would damage my engine or worse hurt my fuel milage (lol). Any body else have any thoughts?

I'm also interested as to what it would help/hurt?

I just installed a 180* stat.. Haven't noticed any change but I was'nt expecting to. I didn't go any lower because I didn't want to lose any efficiency or give up any gas mileage. I'm still concerned about cooling issues around #7. Just looking for extra piece of mind and any edge I can get.
