Its a pretty cheap mod from what I understand. Can't you get a new stat for like $15? How hard is it to install one?

BTW 180* stat is stock temp, if you're gonna change it go with a 160*, it won't hurt anything. It's a splitting hairs mod, won't make much of a diff but why not.

The gauge will read 15* higher than the thermostat temp.

The cooler thermostat is an advantage to run from everything I've found. If you change the fan settings you'll get more gain out of it yet. With a 160º stat it's not uncommon to be able to run a couple degrees more ignition timing. The transmission cooler also runs thorugh the radiator and in result will run cooler. The hotter the engine is, the hotter the underhood temps will be resulting in higher IAT's. Higher engine temps and higher IAT's will result in spark knock more often than a cooler running engine and cooler IAT's. The stock stat runs around 192º to 195º. I run the 160º thermostat and 2 bottles of water wetter. I just don't recomend running it in weather under 0º C for very long as the oil temps won't run high enough to get the moisture out of it.
