Default 08 6.0 or 06 8.1? head and cam

I have a deposit on my benz so its trime to really talk about this suburban stuff.

If you where going to buy a burban for a dailey driver and tow rig. Which one would you do. a new body style with the 6.0 ltr motor which is a carry over from the other 6.0 motors but it has a 6 speed trans, Or would do at 06 8.1 L with the 496ci big block and the 4L80E trans. Both burnas will have 4:10 gears.

My plan is to do:

Heads and cam,
Headers,
Cat back
ECU work
cold air intake.

Maybe on down the road a whipple on the 8100 because that all that out there, or a whipple / maggie on the 6.0

So opinions, suggestions, and why.

i've heard the 6.0L responds much better to mods than the 8.1L. plus there is WAY more stuff for the 6.0.

Do the 6.0. GM did bump up the HP so its not exactly a carry over. With the inclusion of the 6l80e, I wouldn't hesitate to get the 6.0.

There is almost nothing for the 8.1.

yup get the 6.0, there is alot of market for the 6.0 and very very little for the 8.1, plus if its the new 6speed tranny that comes in the denali's, then thats one good tranny!!

From what i have read the hp is about the same on the 6.0 Vs 8.1 even when you do heads and cam... It jsut the 8.1 has about 100 lbt more torque no matter how you modify them..

Stock the 8100 has 455 lbtq. vs 350 of the 6.0

I dont have personal experiece with this, but my buddy's dad says his 6.0 'burb tows better than his stock d-max..he owns a farm and tows hay and horse trailers...

I would go with the new 6.0 if it was me, 8.1s getlike 7 mpg and they tow kinda shitty IMO. My ex's dad has an 03 gmc 8.1 and tows his fishing boat with it, I went with him a couple times and it drinks gas and just feels kinda wierd driving/towing.

8.1, go big or go home, if its a tow rig there is no loss to 3/4 ton.
