Honestly, after modding these trucks/motors for the last 10 years your best bet is to leave the 4.8 (with factory high performance heads/intake)in there and buy a Turbo kit from one of our sponsors. You will have pleanty of reliable HP and in the long run you will be waaay ahead. Then you can save for a built trasnny/4l80e swap..K.I.S.S

But to answer your orig question, its a direct swap for either a 5.3/6.0..as simple as R&R..You would benifit from a tune

What kind of horsepower gains would I be looking at after putting a turbo on it and what turbo do you recommend?

from what ive learned its about 20rwhp/20rwtq per psi. so 5psi could net you about 100hp/100tq over stock to the ground. thats not even including meth injection, cam swap, or anything else just the basic turbo master power 70mm turbo kit from either KBRacing or TrickPerformance.

I checked into the turbo from trick and I think I may just go with the stage 2 and run it at about 7 pounds of boost I would like to go with more boost but I am not sure what else I need to do to my motor to keep from destroying it since it is stock any ideas

Tune
NGK TR6 spark plugs
Might need a little bit larger injectors

Really, everything else from the factory should be able to support around 7 psi. That is barely even breathing into these LS engines.

Is it a flexfuel truck?
If so then you have enough fuel pump for about 10psi easy?

Turbo kit, injectors, tune and its time to go have fun.
head gaskets, head studs, fuel pump, injectors, and a cam y ou could see 600hp to the wheels easy.

I've done the swap, and although I do love the power and sound from the 6.0, I would have done it different. I would have gone turbo from the get go.

I'm in the same situation , want to do a 6.0 swap but since I have the 4.8 thinking about the turbo instead. 6.0 swap will be cheaper but sounds like turbo would be better. Decisions, decisions.
