Default 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 headers on a 427?

What headers should I go with I considered shorties but I'm gonna end up going long tube 427 dart 224/230 cam on a 114 with afr 245s and 10:2:1 compression the trucks on 35s with stock 4.10s at the moment I'm looking at 1 and 3/4s but would the 1 7/8s help the bigger ci breathe better or what?

Bigger is better. Especially when you're dealing with big cubes.

ARH makes 2", that would be my choice

The cam is small for the engine combo so will probably run out of breath on the top end where the 1-7/8 would shine over 1-3/4. It is not a max effort setup so get which ever are available or meet your budget as they will both perform about the same on that combo, IMO.

i'm a little torn between the suggestion above & saying just get the 1 7/8" so you have room to upgrade in the future.
either way, shorties are basically worthless on an LS build because the OEM manifolds flow almost as well for a fraction of the cost.

You guys are blowing my mind.

Stock LS3s pick up power with a 2" over a 1 7/8"

That was my thought as well.

I have 1 7/8's on my 5.3 and they are great. Going on a 427 I would definitely go 2" primaries.

considering my blown LS1 (8L equivalent displacement) flows plenty good on 1 7/8", i don't think going full-hog on 2" is really necessary.
i do agree that 1 3/4" would choke the top end, but for a truck on 35s with only 4.10s, how much high-RPM driving will it really see to take actual advantage of the extra size? remember, everything has trade-offs, and the larger primaries (a lot more $$, especially for 2") would give up more off-idle grunt, which is what that little cam seems to focus on.

those're just my thoughts on it.

will 2" read higher on the dyno? absolutely, so if he's chasing a peak power number: get 2"

what's his budget? if he's working with peanuts, 1 3/4" will get him by but leave a lot on the table while still providing excellent off-idle torque. granted i ain't priced headers in about 10yrs, but i know the 2" were LOTs more cash than 1 7/8 at the time & weren't worth it in my particular case for a couple extra ponies in addition to moving my power band farther up.

My cam is a mild one, I basically have to pass a 2 speed sniffer which is idle and at 2500rpm that's it no visual I'm sure I could get away with a bigger cam but It's basically a 2500 stall with a shift kit so it's more of a low rpm to mid range motor anyway

mild for sure: i was running a 219/224 115° in my 5.3 (102ci less), and it was relatively tame.
my car's got a 231/248 120° with 346ci
