Default 1.8 Rockers?

I know I asked this before, but did not get any responses on it.

I don't want to tear into my motor, if I don't have to, but I'd like to do one more thing to the motor, before I just wait for the supercharger. I was thinking of putting the Yella 1.8 roller rockers with roller tips on my truck. I don't have a problem with just removing the valve covers to do this, so the labor would not be bad. They recommend new valve springs and what not, but do I have to do that if I don't go over 6000rpms. Will it hurt the motor. I know that they will not give much if any power, but the reduced friction, and quiter valvetrain would be nice, and I think they would help later with the supercharger. I wan't long term miles out of my truck so, I don't want all too radical running of the motor. I plan to never take it past 6000rpms, even with the charger.

Does anyone have these, and do I have to change the valvesrpings? I read somewhere that someone said they liked the little extra power at higher rpms.

you will definatly have to change the valve springs, why do you plan to not take the truck over 6k rpm with the charger? you won't be getting maximum performance out of it that way.

My Radix supercharged Tahoe peaks out below 6000rpm I shift at 5800rpm 200rpm after the horsepower peak at 5600rpm.The Radix system makes boost down low it makes so much lowend torque that you don't notice the wide gear split going into 3rd.The Tahoe shifts into 2nd gear before I've gone 60',into 3rd gear well before the 1/8th mi and pulls 3rd gear to 5600rpm in the 1/4th mi.I would definately change the valvesprings if I were going with 1.8 rockers to prevent coil bind.

My 1.85 SLP rockerarms did not raise the rpm level at which the powerband occured they gave about 10 to 12hp accross the entire powerband.

whitt .. what gears are you running in your hoe? What about tire size? My truck seems awfully high geared from what your telling me.

I shift into 2nd at about 5700 at 45, and into 3rd at 5700 at 85'ish. In a 'roughly measured' quarter, I just get into 3rd decently when I cross the quarter mark.

BTW .. I have 3.73's and 31.3 inch tires.

Damn Witt, I have 4.10s and I go into 2nd at 42 running 6300rpms, 3rd going 75 at 6300rpms. You must be running some really low gears.

I'm running 3.73 gears with 26"Drag Radial tires 36mph in 1st,74mph in 2nd and 111mph in 3rd.With 9 1/2 lb of boost the Tahoe is a beast. It out ran a V-Rod Harley from a red light over the weekend.

I would love to step down to 4.10's. By an online calculator I found, that would be the equivalent of putting 26" tires on. That would still leave me looking like a 'stock' 4x4 with big all terrains on, but give me the performance of the smaller tires.

Flyer the trick is light weight smaller diameter wheels have less inertia therefore accelerate more quickly and use less horsepower to do it.You are probably using 40hp more to turn your big wheels and tires than I am to turn 20lb Centerlines and small diameter tires. My 60' times are under 1.8 seconds and by being into the powerband in 3rd gear in the 1/8 mile I have room to make big mph in the 1/4 mile.
