You could run high 12's for awhile with the stock tranny, but if your getting greedy and want low 12's-high 11's you will need a built tranny. As for cams the 224/224 112 will work good in a 5.3L. Yes long tubes are better, shorties are good, stock manifolds arent that bad. As far as safely running a 200 shot, thats up to you. I've run a 225 dry shot for a year and a half and had no problems exept for the occational spark plug swap every 2000-3000 miles. I have the fuel to support it though and the tuning. Thats the most important thing. As long as you have proper tuning and the right fuel dellivery there's no reason a 5.3L engine shouldnt last a long time with a 300 shot. These engines are extremely strong, and have some of the best stock internaly ever put in a truck.

If you can run 18psi boost into a totaly stock 4.8 and pull 540rwhp i think a 300 shot with a good tune and good fuel is safe. And a cam and rod bolt 6.0 pull 640rwhp.

What kind of tuning did you have when you lived in FL? I thought you just got HPT? What kind of fuel system upgrades do you have?

Recommending that someone spray a 300-shot on a stock 5.3 is just crazy.

I try to stay away from nitrous. A 6.0, Yank 3000, long tubes, pulley, e-fans, 3.90's, cam, heads, and a good tune would probably put solid mid 12's. That's gonna be my route.

Down in FL i paid $2.25 per pound at Automotive Engineering, $3.00 per pound at Speed Craft, $2.50 per pound at Hocus Pocus, and i think it was a little more than $3.00 per pound at Mustang Motorsports.

Up here they sell it at the track for like $5.00 a lb. and in Portland i think I can get it for $4.75 a lb. Either way the track i over 2 hours away and portland is half an hour away. To far and too much to want.

In FL all those places were within a couple miles of my house.

I'm not recomending he do it. I'm saying i believe a stock 5.3 would hold it.

Fuel system i had then was 32# injectors and vortech inline, and tuning was done roughly at a friends shop in TX with edit. Thats why i was running so rich and only 15* timing at WOT. Hence the plug changes every 2000-3000 miles.
