Boost is a little different than nitrous though. It is not as hard as nitrous on parts. The pressure in the cylinder as it's filling up helps keep rods and pistons alive. Also, while the torque increase from a turbo can be pretty high it is not instantaneous like nitrous. That is hard on parts. (300 shot/5.3L/last a long) time don't belong in the same sentence with each other IMHO.

Does anyone have the old video of Brooke(in TX) spraying the 300 shot on a stock 5.7L LS1?

How do you think a 100 shot would hold up on a 5.3 with cam pushrods springs.... pretty much stock bottom.... I heard that if I ran 100 octane that a 100 shot would be fine...

I dont plan on doing anything over that....

I ran it doing a few old school tricks, I had some 245/50r16 used eagle rsa tires that I had turned into slicks, the shorter tire gave me A much larger gear than I had, like a 4.42 ratio if you do the math. I was sitting at the top of 3rd gear crossing the traps. This also gave me a larger contact patch.

I also sprayed a two stage shot. 70dry off the line, then 100 wet half way through first, I had bumped timing to 26 degrees running straight 118 race gas. I brought bottle pressure up to 1100 psi which gave me a much harder hit off the line, although it fades much sooner. I picked up about 1/2 a second getting my tune nailed down, it took about 7 months & a ton of logging after the wife went to bed. I finally had to accept the fact that the truck was just faster running PIG,FAT,NASTY rich, like 1100 mv. I know everyone says different but the time slips don't lie.

I have done a bunch of experimenting with mine since I have had it, 3 different cams, 4 different stalls, about 5 or 6 different exhaust set-ups. I have also abused it & in 27k I have destroyed 3 transmissions & one rear end. Now I believe I have the 4.8 limping, there is a nice little knock in the a.m. when I crank it up which has me now hurrying to build the ls1. I think the 7500rpm shifts don't help.....

I did run a 13.26 with the new cam (224/224), 3500 stall, & a 100 wet shot through second & third with the 20 inch tires on it. I tried to run again & ended up getting kicked off the track for no helmet. I think that with a big stal & big cam & a decent shot of juice 12's are fairly easy, there are guys on here that have spent alot more than I have & I am not sure why they are not in the 12's. If you decide to tune yourself be patient, & take your time.

just for reference i ran a 13.4x in a rcsb 4wd with only 3 mods. 100shot, efans, tstat.

traction was all ready there for me being a 4wd but so was the extra weight.

i think with a 125shot, 5.3, TRACTION, and maybe a couple of bolt on's you would be in the 12's.

ok i've got a few ?s. if i decide to go nitrous can you run a 150shot on pump gas or can you run more than a 150 on pump. would 4wd be better to go with to start. if i go allmotor what heads/cam+boltons combo will get me in the 450-500whp range. what about turbo. i know i could fab the exhaust mani and intake piping, the thing i'm worried about is tuning, can nelson or some other custom tuning company make a tune for my application. lots of decisions to make. thanks for your guys help so far. keep em comin.

i ran a 150 and a 175 shot on mine with pump gas. i would add some octane boost if i were going to the track. you being an extended cab is what is going to kill you. and that tranny is going to go soon after. maybe even before. as for set up's. 6 cams (#6 on the way) 7 exhaust's. 3 60e's and my first 4l80e(built) three stalls -2400-2600-2800(loose) two tb's--countless spark plugs, wires, and other miscellaneuous. 5 different intakes. a stand alone fuel system and then finally back to the first mounting location of the tip after 5 tries. i was able to punch out 12.79 to 12.85 at the touch of a button traction permitting. like xlr8 said nos is unforgiving. it is hard on a m otor. hence my #5 cylinder. you will need to make a decision as well. are you going to go to nitrous or go n/a. good luck. oh yay i weighed in at 4950 with me in it. that would be 4650 for the truck. and i am pulling 13.79 all motor. that is with a cam and bolt on's/ and a **** load of tuning. not to mention thru a 80e which will draw about an extra 40hp to turn.i know for a fact that nelson can tune for all of it. and he is a sponser.

oh yay be picky on the performance parts you choose. searcha lot and listen. dont just go buy a big cam and big stuff bolt it on and be dissappointed. read and ask people questions as you are.especially on cams. there are people on here that have a real good grasp on cams. bigtex and silverado5.3 can help out. best of luck. keep us ext cabs going man. im going to limp mine till the end of the year. then........................heheheheheh.

The thing with n20 is you have to ask yourself---Am I going to spray n20 knowing that the slightest mistake can cost you a motor or tranny or even with all the safety items that **** can still go bad real quick! When I first got on the n20 kick I told myself I know the possibilities positive and NEGATIVE that I have. I saved up and bought parts for 6 months-I basiclly bought every safety item and accessory possible short of a timing tuner(digital WS,TPS,FPSS,A/F switch, heater, purge, opener, switch panel, gauges, filter, you name it)! Those items gave me some sense of security but the 2nd time I sprayed it ended up costing me $1400 and 2 weeks after that another $4000 that included a motor! Althought all of that wasnt directly result from n20 none of it would of happened if the problem I had when I sprayed for the 2nd time wouldnt of occured. Then again my buddy CRAZY has a bottle lines, noids, and a pushbutton and has sprayed a shitload of n20-I mean a shitload and has run trouble free for the most part for a year untill now! All Im saying is alot of people never have probelms but they all know what can happen in a second. Just make sure you dont go cheap on parts and def hook it up to a wideband on a dyno!
