I went ahead and did it when I did my cam swap otherwise I wouldnt mess with it. It runs you engine colder and therefore the tuner may be able to add a degree or two of timing but if it is going to be a mailorder tune then dont mess with it IMO.

Umm no I dont think others will fit because of the housing and all. I got my 160 thermo from slp performance..Yea and when i got my tune they asked if i had a 160..so yea i guess they tune it for it...but ever since i installed the 160, my heater will not get hot. at all.

Might wanna check for an air-pocket Bigwake03...it's been down below 10* here so far this year and my heat's been great with the 160* thermo. Had a 160* stat in my 85 MonteSS for about 5 years through Jersey winters and heat was never an issue...(traction was an issue though )

I was wondering if this mod was worth it as well. Will it add power or does it just make you run cooler. Will it lower my ET? haha I am gonna have Allen do a street tune so im not sure whether to spend the money or not?

If there is/was an air pocket, the reservoir would be a little low (as long as there are no leaks...the system must be sealed) and the engine has been through a few heat cycles. Different guys use different methods, but what has always worked for me is "burping" the system as I fill it. I squeeze the upper hose while filling, and can hear the coolant gurgle as the air works it's way out. Once the gurgling stops, I start the engine and top off a tad, and let it idle until the t-stat opens. Then I top off again, drive, and recheck. After it cools I recheck again, just in case there was any air in there that worked it's way out.
