if you do not like a/c at idle, get a 160.

I guess I should add that between the pulleys and 160 thermostat, a/c is non existant at idle. The advantage is that the valve opens at 160 degrees allowing the coolant to start flowing through the motor sooner. After warm up, I see a max of 185-190 degrees on 90+ degree days when sitting still.

see post above. I restated that between the pulleys and thermostat, a/c is non-existant. Its probably just the pulleys causing the lack of a/c.

A lower temp stat will allow the engine to run a little cooler and thus generally allow a little more timing and a little less heat soak. Most likely you will not notice any gain. I had a high flow Stewart water pump and a 160* stat one my old 383 for a short while. I switched to a 180 because it just took to damn long to warm up and that engine was a cold blooded beast.
