Default 160 deg t-stat?

i noticed a lot of you are running a 160* t-stat, should i get one? i know i put one in my 93 a long time ago and started getting even crapier gas mileage then i was already getting and i did not help performance at all so i replaced it with a 180 and it ran fine. im not trying to compare the two engines cause there totally different, but i thought our trucks ran better a lil warmer, so is a 160* stat a worth it or not.

I have a 160 in my truck, it did not help fuel mileage if anything made it alittle worse, then i had it tuned and they set the fans to match the 160 stat and my mileage went back up, I think it helps keep my engine compartment temps down and helps keep my blower alittle cooler ?? maybe?? not real sure. maybe some one else will chime in.

Im really thinking about going back to my stock 210 the 160 only made my gas mileage worst and the truck was even tune for it so i would say negative on the 160 its just a waste of money.

IMO, if properly tuned, a 160* stat is a nice compliment to electric fans that are set to take advantage of the cooler stat. I've been running a 160* stat with 05 efans set at 180* on and 173* off, and my fuel mileage didn't change at all...actually, after installing the efans I noticed that I went an extra day before I had to fill up (same daily driving routine), which tells me that my gas mileage actually improved (from the efans maybe?).

With the engine running cooler, you can squeak out a little more timing before detonation occurs, and run a little higher compression before detonation occurs, not to mention, your trans will run cooler if you're using the factory cooler in the radiator.

It really depends on the application...on a stock truck, as the only mod: no, I wouldn't bother, but if you're planning things that will build heat and pressure, a 160* stat isn't a bad idea...my .02

I run the 160 stat and am tuned for it. I feel a lot more comfortable with the lower engine temps, especially during the summertime.

I'm running a modified stock stat and temps rarely go over 180* according to the stock gauge.
