Another quick question.......

One of my reasons for the 160 degree thermostat is because when it gets around 83, 84 + degrees around here, I can't sit still in my truck with the a/c running long before it starts to increase the temperature and try to over heat. I've took it to 2 shops and the dealership and they can't figure out whats wrong with it, so I figured a 160 degree thermostat could be a good first start to maybe helping the issue plus a little extra performance. My question is.....Have any of you guys ever heard of draining some anti-freeze out and replacing what you drained out with regular water ??? Water runs cooler than anti-freeze and it hardly ever gets cold enough around here to need anti-freeze, and when it does start getting real cold again I can just replace the anti-freeze. Anybody know if that really works or heard of people doing that??

The one you have pictured in the first link is not the correct one. You need the one above it with the full housing. If you have the stock stat you can also just do the BB mod which is a lot cheaper than a new stat and serves the same function. Do a search there is a write up about it on here somewhere.

Have you thought that it might be a mechanical issue such as a bad fan clutch?

I would have to agree with Brian. It's doubtful that a lower degree stat is going to help your problem any. For a lower stat to make much difference sitting at idle you need to have e-fans that can be commanded to run at a lower temp. With the mechanical fan you are still relying on the heat to engage the clutch. It might take a few more minutes to warm up to the same temp but it will most likely still get to the same temps that you are seeing now at idle.
