Default 160 T-stat???????

I've got a 160 t-stat in my 03SS and I have heard alot of things good and bad about running a cooler t-stat on these newer engines. My gas mileage really blows and I am wondering if maybe the 160 stat is hurting me and I do live in Michigan so it is cold here alot. Just wondering if anybody has any opinions on this. It also seems like it ran a little stronger with the stock stat.

Ok well yes it going to hurt the gas mileage. I'm still new to this truck thing, but in my bird when it got cold outside and i had my 160 T-stat it took FOREVER to warm up. Ever try a 180?

It does seem to warm up fairly quick and on my scan tool it reads that my engine is running at 170 I am thinking that might be a little on the cool side. I have been taking it really easy on this tank of gas and I am still only averaging 12.5 mpg which sucks *** and that isn't even city driving.

You got that right it is a bunch of bullshit! I don't have anything really extreme done to it just a cam, springs, headers etc......... supercharger coming soon though. Most of my trips are at least 20 min or so with the cruise on so I should at least see 14 or 15 I would think. Something isn't right.

It is a 5300 pound truck with 4.10 gears so I guess I shouldn't be bitching about it that much.
