Flushing wouldn't be a bad idea.

How long has it been since your last "burp," as you put it.

My '03 does the same thing after a hard pull from passing on the highway, or if on a trip in the mountains after going up a long grade. Also, when shut off and it sits briefly after running, there is some heat soak and it goes up to around 200 when re-started. The 160 stat starts opening at 160 and is fully open at about 180. That's where mine normally stays. When I installed the 160, I put the same amount of fresh coolant back in as was drained out, and the coolant tank level stays right where it is supposed to, so I don't think there is any air in the system. Mine has been in for about four months and I think the fluctuation isn't abnormal.

Mine doesnt fluctuate. But i have electric fans so that would probably be your problem. Get some electric fans and 1. your engine doesn't have to bare the load of the machinical fan and 2. It more percise with the temperature! My truck stays right around 180 no matter how hot or cold it is outside!! the highest it gets is 190 but thats when im on it hard, and even then it doesnt stay there it drops back down again as soon as rpm drop.
