1999-2000 6.0L Lq4 questions, just bought one, iron heads
I just bought an iron head, iron block 6.0L LQ4 for my 78 Datsun, and i want to know as much about them as possible before installing the engine. I know it came with a longer crank which means i should be able to run a 700r4 or something without a spacer right?
What about the rods? Are they stronger or weaker?
What about the compression ratio, what is it?
What about the heads, are they the same casting as 317s?
What about the crank, is it just as strong as the rest?
What about the block, its identical correct?
I'm just looking for differences on the engine so i can select the right parts during my build.
Thanks guys!
Shawn

You'll have to use a 4L80E trans with that engine, it will not bolt up to a 4L60E or a 700R4. The rods are just as strong as any LQ4 rod up to 05, as of 05 they got the same stronger rods as the LQ9's. I believe that the compression ratio is 9.4:1, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I also believe that the heads are similar to the 317's but made of iron, not 100% sure though. Block should be the same and I think the crank is just as strong.

What about the rods? Are they stronger or weaker?Same till 05
What about the compression ratio, what is it?9.4 to 1
What about the heads, are they the same casting as 317s?Same. Some say flow better because casting are more consistant but not by much.In other words better off with aluminum because of weight savings
What about the crank, is it just as strong as the rest?Other than the rear being longer it is casted with the same nodular iron.
What about the block, its identical correct? There is some small differences but idr right now.

Thanks guys! Well from everything i have read, i can use any SBC trans behind it to get the correct spacing. Just like using a 700r4, TH400, etc behind a regular ls1 requires that .400" or whatever it is spacer, using that 4l80e also requires the .400" spacer behind a regular ls1. I'm actually hoping i can use an LT1 T56 behind the engine.
I got this engine for $150, removed running, good oil pressure no noises, 200k on it, i am just basically using it as a template to get the engine and running, then when the motor spins a rod bearing or whatever, i am going to pull it out, bore/stroke it to a 402-408 put a nice cam and some l92s on it and put it in my 68 Firebird, then take the all aluminum LS1 from my Firebird and bolt it back into the Datsun. By then ill Either have and LS1 t56 for it and can just have an extra clutch and T56 for my 94 Z28 for when it goes

No you cannot. You can run an LT1 style 4l60e in it i believe and any TH350, TH400 but no LS1 T56, or LS1 4l60e. Just a 4l80e since they use spacers with later ls1s. I am trying to figure out if i can run an LT1 t56 behind it.
Did any 99-2000 silverado 6.0s come in manual?

The crank will go in a 01-04 block but it would still be the same clearence issue. The blocks are identical but the crank is just different. I have heard of people switching out the cranks for an 01-04 crank but thats alot of work
