Default 2000 5.3L help

So I have a 2000 silverado with a 5.3L in it. Already have tri-ys waiting to go on. Was told I should probably change my cam with those headers. Not looking to go crazy cause I still want a gas milage. I was really just looking to improve the low down torque.

Also just recently someone broke into my truck and my truck sat at the body shop for 2 weeks getting worked on. When I got her back she was puffing white smoke real bad. I'm hoping it's just a "havent been driven" issue and not a blown head gasket. If it is I'm wondering what's a good mild way to spruce up the stock heads?
