Default 2000 Silverado mods

Recently installed Flowmaster 50 series (one in/two out) and drop in K&N filter in my 4.8. Was wondering what other mods I could do (other than installing LT1 electric fans) that wouldn't trip the service engine light. I know the factory computer is 'looking' for certain operating parameters and don't know what to do to boost some more horsepower w/o it flagging a problem.

You could put on some headers, make a 160 degree thermostat, free mods. Oh, by the way, welcome, and you have come to the right place. This forum rocks.

Wouldn't setting the thermostat down that low cause the fans to run all the time? The factory operating temp is 187 and I'd hate to have to keep extra fan motors on hand just in case the ones installed burnt up from running all the time. Thanks for the invite to the forum. There seems to be a lot of guys/gals here that know what they're talking about and have a lot of good ideas to help build a REAL headturner!

I don't know about the electric fans but my engine coolant usually runs around 172 degrees and I like that a lot.

i wouldn't mess around with any "free mods" because you will not notice much gains, plus you risk triggering that SES light. since you already installed a drop in filter, get a UPD. then find a programmer. raise your shifts points, rev limiter, and some tuning. if you don't plan to do alot of mods, go with a HPP3. if you plan on going crazy, get a predator or EDIT .

You guys will have to excuse the ignorance. I've always been told that the only stupid question is the one not asked so..........what is a UPD?

It's a type of intake system like the K&N.

Don't feel like you can't ask a question for fear of appearing "ignorant."
We're all here to learn so ask away
