Default 2000 Yukon 5.3 Help Begin Modding...

I just picked up a 2000 Yukon and I have some plans for the suspension then I'm going to move onto the performance mods.

So far this is what I have on the list...
5000k Hid lows & Fogs-Done
Color match valance
Debadge & Remove moldings-Done
Remove roof rack
Tint front windows 20% to match rear
3-5" Drop
TBSS Grey 22s or Chrome 22 U2s
Nitto 305/40/22 Tires
Summit 14" big brake kit

Then bolt-ons...
Vette Servo
Shift kit-(worth anything??)
CAI-Spectre or K&N
Underdrive Pulley (worth anything??)
LPP LTs
Magnaflow catback
e fans-stock with Blackbear harness
Tune

Then...
Heads-Looking at Texas Speed PRC 5.3 2.5ported heads
Cam-Gonna make some calls before I decide (considering LS6 Hotcam kit)
Intake-TBSS
Stall-2600-3000
Built trans

I know its not going to be the fastest thing on the planet, but I want something thats fun to drive and can **** off some of the locals. I am working on finishing up my Camaro and when thats done I'm going to start the suspension overhaul on the Yukon and start with the bolt-ons. When I start getting into the heads and cam I need some help on what direction to go. The yukon is mostly a DD so I need it to be reliable.

What do you guys think? Am I headed in the right direction?? If not please help a guy out :handshake:

i think you are definately on the right track with those boltons. i would wait on the underdrive pulley and do it at the same time as the cam swap. i am currently looking at the same heads for my ccsb. with aftermarket heads, definately go with a better cam than the ls6. if your already planning on ordering heads from tsp why not pick up there 220 cam to go with it? is your yukon 2wd or 4wd? the biggest gain i seen was a gear swap in my truck, especially with heavy rims and tires(same size as you)...and yes, a shift kit and servo will help hold ur stock trans togethor until you can get a built one

The Yukon is 4wd, I haven't looked to see what gears it has right now. I was just putting the cam up there, I am planning on talking to TSP before I decide 100% on what cam to get. But I don't want something with a really choppy idle, I would like it to idle close to stock to keep people guessing.

My end goal would be to get into the mid 14s, but since it weighs in about 6500 pounds I don't know if that possible with the 5.3. But I don't know if I want to switch to the 6.0, maybe down the road but the heads and cam could go in the 6.0 right?

Thanks for the response

Your definately going in the right direction. And your probably running 3.73 gearing. If I were you id keep that 5.3 instead of a 6.0 if you want a sleeper and also to put that cash you'll save into go fast parts. Either way it sound like it'll be a nice truck. Keep us posted I wanna see what it looks like when you have all your visual mods!

I got all of the moldings and badges removed today, I was going to color match the valance this weekend, but couldn't get anyone to mix the paint for me on Friday. I guess I'll just wait until its warmer. But after the moldings are off it looks taller and the factory 16s look tiny, I can't wait until I can get some real wheels on it with a lower stance

Thanks for the input, glad I'm headed in the right direction

Won't a stock LQ9 put out more HP than all those bolt-ons in a 5.3?

a h/c/i 5.3 will put out more power than a stock 6.0 but obviously since everything will swap to the bigger cubed engine the 6.0 is a better starting point

I agree, if I can find another 6.0 for ~$500 I'll swap that in and then start the bolt ons, but they are going for ~$1200 for the long block and I can get a set of ported heads for that much. But if I can get a good deal on another 6.0 my brother would buy the 5.3 from me for his S10.

I'll see how it goes, its going to be a little while before I start the bolt ons, the suspension will get done first and if I come across another good deal I'll pick it up

Well heres how she looks after a weekend of removing badges and trim. I also installed the new valance (old one was broken) and new fog light housings, then hooked up the HIDs.

Sorry for the 2nd pic, my camera flash was on and it made it fuzzy

And how it looked when I got it

Next is a CAI, plugs, wires, and hopefully a roll pan. Then I can get the hatch resprayed and the roll pan painted
