2001 Z71 Rear End Noise

Default 2001 Z71 Rear End Noise

I'm new to this so be kind. I've had my 1st Z71 for about a month. There is a strange hooting noise, like a dry bushing or loose shock, from the rear end when starting from a stop, braking at slow speed and occasionally cornering. Won't do it in neutral. I've been told by a 2000 Z71 owner the Chevy guys said it's due to the type of lubricant in the rear end, it is normal and no harm is being done. It will go away by changing the lube but will return in a few months. Any confirmation or debunking this theory? Thanks.

Well it probably is the U-Joint in the rear of the drive shaft. GM is well known for making and underlubing parts. Also you leaf springs could be hitting each other and making noise...there is more GM grease for this too.

Start by greasing up all the parts on your drivetrain.

I told you I already posted for ya Dad Least you got a response, my thread is slowly falling down the list and hasn't gotten anything but looks Ah well, there's you one answers to go from

Mine did the same thing... I took it into the dealership and they replaces the slip yoke (slip joint and propeller shaft).
