Default 2002 LS6/ZO6 cam in a 5.3L, longer pushrods?

I was told if I put a 2002 LS6 cam in my z71 I have to get longer push rods because the base circle on the ZO6 cam is smaller than my stock cam. Is this true? If so what length pushrod do I need to get?

Thanks,
Sean

I believe its about .020" its a relatively small amount people have run them without changing the pushrods you just have less than optimal geometry, which can result in more valvetrain noise. If you are going to run a LS-6 cam you must change the springs, and you really need to switch to something stiffer( like the comp cams) than the factory ls-6 springs as they were designed for then lightweight sodium filled valves of the LS-6 heads.

It is true aboutt the basecirlce but it is not necessary to get longer pushrods. I will post some dynos before and after...stock 01' 5.3 and same with LS6 Cam/Springs and yank TT3000 overlaid.

If you go to www.sdpc2000.com scoggin dickey one of our sponsors, they have a LS6 cam package for $575 you get the 2002 Z06 cam, Rollmaster chain, correct pushrods, performance vavle springs titanium retainers, gasket set and balancer bolt. Can't be any easier.

.020" is not enough to argue about. I do have the ZO6 springs for this cam. Thanks for the information guys!

I'm trying to figure if it is a problem but I assume GM still uses that man hugging "self lash adjusting" valvetrain. The only conclusion I can make is the vavle tip may not wear correctly possibly, the hydraulic lifters will take up the slack in the vavletrain so the vavle shouldn't open or close sooner/later. could you be loosing lift cause of the smaller base circle, LS6s have longer valves to make up for this.
