Default 2005 5.3 rough idle issues/intermittent

Hey guys, I just bought a 2005 Silverado and have had occasional issues with it. Right before I bought it, about 500 miles ago the Cats were replaced by the previous owner. He had the same issues I have.

Occasionally out of nowhere the truck will start running really rough, idling low, and dumping fuel (smell it out of the exhaust). I had a mechanic check it and he believed it was a coil pack, it had 3 misfires but only one coil on the driver side had never been replaced. So we replaced it.

After replacing it the truck ran great for about 5 days but now is doing the same thing occasionally again. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is my ride, so far I have taken pin stripes off of it, did brakes all the way around, had all the bearings in the rear end replaced, and added Escalade wheels

Lightbulb A few ideas....

Did you check the front O2 sensor operation? Fuel Pressure check, priming, running, and leak down after key off (can help identify a leaky injector)? How are the fuel trims, Off really bad on one bank maybe? Fuel injectors ever been sent out to be cleaned and flowed professionally? Plugs and wires in good shape?

I chased an annoying intermittent miss around until I finally fixed it with a set of front O2 sensors and a ECM reset.

Very nice looking ride by the way.

Thanks for the compliment and ideas. I work a 6pm-6am schedule and haven't had time to get back to my mechanic. It acted up again Monday night and has been fine since. I'm gonna have it scanned again and I'll talk with him about all of these suggestions. I'm honestly thinking it could be an 02 sensor so we shall see soon enough I hope

I would definitely look to the O2 sensors first. They can cause this kind of issue. Usually it will throw a code but sometimes they don't. You might also try cleaning the MAF sensor. If those are dirty from long term use or a K&N filter that could cause some of the issues you are seeing as well.

If you rule out the issue for the O2s, I would try looking into a ground issue. Its possible, that if someone has had their hands in there before that a ground wasnt snugged up...

my brothers 4.8 did that. changed 1 bad coil pack and spark plugs and it ran fine for a day or two and started back. come to find out a few spark plug wires were broke inside the boot from plug change...new wires and it was fixed. your issue sounds more 02 related though
